Mobike faces probe by Berlin data protection regulator

China’s Mobike is under investigation by data regulators in Germany over suspicions that the fast-growing bike-sharing group might be in breach of European data law.

Mobike’s distinctive orange bikes have become a common sight in 23 cities across Europe, including London, Paris, Madrid, Milan and Rotterdam. Worldwide, it claims to have more than 200m registered users.

In Berlin, however, the group now faces a potentially serious regulatory setback, after the capital’s data protection watchdog said that it would probe Mobike’s data and privacy policies.
