Donald Trump has forced out his attorney-general just a day after the midterm elections in a move that placed a question mark over the justice department’s investigation into possible links between Russia and his 2016 presidential campaign.
Jeff Sessions submitted his resignation on Wednesday as the US digested the results of Tuesday’s vote, which gave Democrats control of the House of Representatives and left Republicans with an increased majority in the Senate.
The former Republican senator from Alabama said in a letter to the president: “At your request, I am submitting my resignation”
