Donald Trump vows ‘some kind of retribution’ for Jamal Khashoggi’s death

Donald Trump said there would have to be “some kind of retribution” against Saudi Arabia over the killing of dissident journalist Jamal Khashoggi, but added that the kingdom’s de facto ruler had told him he “had nothing to do with this”.

In his strongest words to date, the US president described the Khashoggi case as “the worst cover-up ever” and said he would support bipartisan efforts in Congress to punish Riyadh.

“I’m going to leave it here very much up to Congress,” Mr Trump said, added that he wanted lawmakers to come up with a bipartisan solution “in conjunction with me”.
