Nikki Haley has resigned as US ambassador to the UN and will leave her post at the end of the year, in the latest high-profile departure to hit the Trump administration.
“I’m a believer in term limits,” she told reporters while sitting alongside President Donald Trump in the Oval Office on Tuesday morning, saying she wanted to spend just two years in the job after an “intense” eight years in public office as governor of the state of South Carolina.
Mr Trump said Ms Haley had informed him months ago that she wanted to “take a break” and was welcome to come back in any role.
