A top North Korean official is expected to visit Washington today, in a move underscoring the intense diplomacy between the US and Pyongyang ahead of the planned June 12 summit in Singapore between Donald Trump and Kim Jong Un.
Speaking before boarding Air Force One, Mr Trump revealed that Kim Yong Chol, a close adviser to Kim Jong Un, would carry a letter from the North Korean leader. Kim Yong Chol has spent the past two days meeting US secretary of state Mike Pompeo in New York.
“A letter is going to be delivered to me from Kim Jong Un. So I look forward to seeing what’s in the letter,” Mr Trump said yesterday. “It’s very important to them. So they’ll be, probably, coming down to Washington . . . for the delivery of a letter.”
