US President Donald Trump on Thursday offered Kim Jong Un wealth and security if he abandoned North Korea’s nuclear weapons, but then appeared to threaten the dictator with death if he refused.
The comments, likely to further rile Pyongyang, come amid a deepening chasm between North Korea and allies South Korea and the US ahead of highly-anticipated summit in Singapore next month.
After months of positive overtures, North Korea’s charm offensive came to a halt this week, with the regime lambasting Washington — in particular US national security adviser John Bolton — for proposing the “Libya model” for denuclearisation.
