China will ban the sale of some sensitive technologies to North Korea in a sign that Beijing is continuing to increase economic pressure on Pyongyang.
The Ministry of Commerce announced the ban on export of dual-use technologies such as particle accelerators and centrifuges, but also software and chemicals which can be used to manufacture weapons of mass destruction.
China had already agreed to ban the items last September as part of a new United Nations Security Council Resolution. But the announcement comes as China has been trying to increase its leverage over Pyongyang, despite a summit last month between China’s President Xi Jinping and North Korean Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un in Beijing.
