A man lost his life and several firefighters were injured Saturday evening in a fire that broke out in Trump Tower, the US president’s signature Manhattan midtown skyscraper.
The blaze engulfed an apartment on the building’s 50th floor, and the fire department was alerted around 5:30pm in New York, fire officials said. The commissioner of New York City’s fire department, Daniel Nigro, told reporters at a press briefing that it was “a very difficult fire, as you can imagine. The apartment is quite large.”
The apartment’s occupant, who was taken to a local hospital, had died, a representative for the fire department confirmed. Six firefighters also sustained minor injuries.
