Apple has poached Google’s top artificial intelligence executive, a key hire that will help the iPhone maker rebuff accusations that it has struggled to attract talent in a vital field.
Alphabet-owned Google said on Monday that John Giannandrea would be stepping down from his role as head of search, which he had held since February 2016. His destination emerged on Tuesday as being Google’s arch rival.
Mr Giannandrea will head Apple’s machine learning and AI strategy, joining its top team reporting to chief executive Tim Cook.
