A white van crashed into pedestrians in Barcelona’s bustling tourist district of Las Ramblas on Thursday evening, killing 13 and leaving dozens wounded.
Police said they were treating the incident as a terrorist attack, the first in Spain since the 2004 Madrid train bombings. Over the past two years terrorists in Stockholm, Nice, Berlin and London have used vehicles as weapons.
Joaquim Forn, a senior official at the Catalan government, said that 13 people had died and more than 50 had been injured.
