President Donald Trump has launched military strikes against Syria in response to the gas attack this week that claimed the lives of more than 70 people.
A US military official told the Financial Times that as many as 60 Tomahawk missiles were fired from the USS Porter and USS Ross, two guided-missile destroyers in the eastern Mediterranean, at roughly 8.30pm EST.
The missiles were targeted at Shayrat air base, from where US officials believe the gas attacks originated. The official said the missiles were programmed to target runways and aircraft at the base, in an effort to damage the Syrian air force.
