Donald Trump has begun to fill the ranks of senior officials at the US Treasury by nominating former Goldman Sachs banker Jim Donovan as deputy secretary at the department.
The president also confirmed that David Malpass, a former chief economist at Bear Stearns who served in two other Republican administrations, would be nominated as under secretary of the Treasury for international affairs.
The appointment of Mr Donovan brings another former Goldman employee into the senior ranks of the administration. Steven Mnuchin, Treasury secretary, is a former Goldman banker, as is Gary Cohn, director of Mr Trump’s National Economic Council. Stephen Bannon, chief White House strategist, also worked at the Wall Street bank.
