Mexico’s President Enrique Peña Nieto slammed Donald Trump’s decision to sign an executive order authorising construction of a border wall on the day Mexican ministers were in Washington for talks on trade and bilateral relations.
But in a message aired on social media, the president stopped short of cancelling his planned trip to Washington to meet the US president on January 31.
“Based on the final report from the Mexican officials who are in Washington, and after consultation with representatives of the Senate and the National Conference of Governors, I will take decisions on the next steps to be taken,” the president said.
