China’s richest man steps up Hollywood spree with move on Golden Globe group

The conglomerate led by China’s richest man is in talks to buy the US studio that stages the Golden Globe Awards for a reported $1bn, the latest in a flurry of moves by Chinese companies to snap up Hollywood assets.

Eldridge Industries said it had agreed to enter into exclusive talks with Wanda Culture Industry — a unit of Wang Jianlin’s Wanda group — with the “goal of finalising a mutually satisfactory transaction” for Dick Clark Productions.

The production company is a mainstay of Hollywood’s self-promotion, staging the Golden Globe Awards and American Music Awards. Both are popular among Chinese audiences.
