Donald Trump has promised to boost defence spending to expand the armed forces and buy scores of new ships and fighter jets, vowing to prevent conflict through “unquestioned military strength”.
Complaining of a “degraded” US military, the Republican presidential candidate said he would scrap existing caps on government spending to fund more troops, aircraft and vessels.
He unveiled his plans in Philadelphia yesterday as the final two months of the election campaign began with Mr Trump and his rival, Hillary Clinton, sparring over national security.
