Two snipers have killed four police officers and injured at least six more during protests in Dallas over the fatal shootings by police of two African-Americans over the past two days in Minnesota and Louisiana.
Dallas police said they had taken two suspects into custody after an intensive search for the snipers who David Brown, the police chief, said had conducted an “ambush” on police in the area where the protesters were demonstrating.
Earlier Mr Brown said police had cornered one of the suspected snipers in a garage and that one of the two suspects had “threatened to plant a bomb downtown”. Greg Abbott, the Texas governor, called on people to remember “the importance of uniting as Americas” following the shootings in Dallas.
