Britain is to have its first female prime minister since Margaret Thatcher was ousted in 1990.
Theresa May, home secretary, and Angela Leadsom, a junior energy minister, will go head-to-head in an election by Conservative members to decide who will succeed David Cameron as party leader and premier. Mr Cameron resigned after the referendum vote to leave the EU last month. The leadership result is due on September 9.
In a second ballot of Tory MPs to decide the final two candidates, Mrs May, who campaigned against Brexit, won 199 votes. Mrs Leadsom, who backed Brexit, picked up 84, with justice minister Michael Gove eliminated.
