Gucci clamps down on HK burnt offerings

Gucci is asking Hong Kong funeral shops to stop selling paper versions of the fashion house’s bags to be burnt as offerings for those in the afterlife.

Kering, the French luxury goods group that owns Gucci, said yesterday that it had written to some of the stores asking them to stop selling offerings that make use of its brand.

“We want to prevent the public thinking mistakenly that Gucci is selling funeral products,” it said. “As a brand we have to defend our intellectual property.”
