Donald Trump has promised “to shake the rust off America’s foreign policy” and seek better relations with Russia and China “from a position of strength”.
In a carefully prepared speech aimed at reassuring a Washington foreign policy establishment alarmed by his populist campaign, the property mogul said the US should not get involved in nation building but should focus on promoting stability in the world. However, he said, the US should be more unpredictable to make it harder for its enemies.
The Republican frontrunner was speaking the day after he won five primaries and declared himself the party’s presumptive nominee for November’s presidential election.
