China on Tuesday hit back at US sanctions against one of its largest telecommunications equipment makers, saying the measures would “severely affect” Chinese companies.
ZTE, China’s second-largest global supplier of telecoms switches, routers and cables after Huawei, faces being cut off from its US technology suppliers after the US commerce department found it had illicitly sold US technology to Iran in contravention of US law, including via shell companies.
Any US company seeking to sell to ZTE must have a licence issued by the department, it said.
