Smartphone users will soon be able to experience dancing on stage with Cirque du Soleil or visiting the lab of Marvel Comics’ Iron Man – thanks to a collaboration between Samsung and Facebook’s Oculus to create a mobile virtual reality headset.
Samsung claimed yesterday that users of its Gear VR headset will be fully immersed in cinematic virtual reality, allowing buyers of its new Galaxy Note 4 smartphone to experience more than 100,000 music videos, live concert events and original programming in a new way.
A deal with Imax, the cinema group, will provide samples of Hollywood and documentary films in a virtual theatre, while a tie-up with DreamWorks, the studio, will offer ways to interact with cartoon characters and movies.
