An official government index of Chinese manufacturing conditions has risen to a higher reading than economists forecast, following the latest round of state stimulus spending.
The state-sponsored purchasing managers' index for the manufacturing sector rose to a reading of 51.7 for July, from 51 in June. Economists surveyed by Bloomberg had expected to see a reading of 51.4.
Any reading above 50 for this index indicates expansion.
