The presidents of Russia and Ukraine discussed the possibility of a ceasefire in the insurgency-torn eastern regions of Ukraine, in a sign that dialogue is continuing in spite of worsening violence in the conflict.
Vladimir Putin of Russia and his Ukrainian counterpart Petro Poroshenko spoke on the phone late on Tuesday, the Kremlin said in a statement released overnight.
According to the statement, Mr Putin expressed concern over the death of two Russian journalists in the Lugansk region, and Mr Poroshenko assured him that Kiev would take measures to ensure the safety of journalists working in the country.
