Royal Dutch Shell is pushing ahead with its plan to drill what will be the world’s most closely watched oil well in the Arctic next summer.
The company intends shortly to file a formal exploration plan for the Chukchi Sea off the northwest coast of Alaska with the US government.
Approval would be a crucial step towards enabling it to drill when the ice clears sufficiently next year, which is expected to be in mid-July.
