Iran draws red line on enriched uranium ahead of Geneva talks

Iran has drawn a red line in critical talks with world powers over its nuclear programme, insisting that it will not allow its current stocks of enriched uranium to be shipped out of the country as part of any deal.

Ahead of the talks in Geneva tomorrow, Abbas Araghchi, deputy foreign minister, said Tehran would not allow current stockpiles of more highly enriched uranium to be removed from the country. “The shipping of materials out of the country is our red line,” he said.

This week’s talks are seen as the most important test yet of whether Hassan Rouhani, Iran’s new president, is able and willing to make concessions on the nuclear programme, which the US and its allies believe could be aimed at building a bomb.
