At least 22 people have been killed and 50 people injured in what one official in the Kenyan government said may be a terrorist attack on the capital.
More than a dozen gunmen stormed a shopping mall popular with middle-class Kenyans and expatriates at Saturday lunchtime – one of the busiest times of the week – in a siege that lasted hours.
“It is a possibility that it is an attack by terrorists, so we are treating the matter very seriously,” Mutea Iringo, the principal secretary in the Ministry of Interior told Reuters, although other senior government officials warned against speculation.
