For Xiong Li, a 32-year-old newlywed from Guangzhou, a honeymoon frolicking on the white sand beaches and in the azure waters of Mauritius amounts to a “dream” come true.
“After the wedding, the trip is the best,” she says during a short visit to Port Louis, the island’s capital.
Ms Xiong and her husband reflect the changing face of the multibillion-dollar tourism industry of Mauritius, Maldives and the Seychelles. Chinese travellers are offsetting what has been a sharp drop in European visitors to the Indian Ocean.
