Chinese rivals

The biggest rivals to Sotheby’s and Christie’s in 2011 were Chinese auction houses, according to data from the Conseil des Ventes, the French auction market regulation body. Beijing Poly International, the third largest auction house in the world by sales, was followed in fourth place by China Guardian, writes

This year’s report, due for release on June 26, is expected to also underline the challenge posed by the Chinese companies, despite a 50 per cent decline in value sold in the Chinese market during the first three months of 2013.
