French actor Gérard Depardieu arrived in Russia at the weekend where he dined with Vladimir Putin, president, and received a Russian passport, writes Charles Clover in Moscow.
Mr Depardieu applied for Russian citizenship after a public dispute with French authorities last month over a proposed supertax on millionaires.
On Saturday, Russian television showed the two men eating dinner together in Sochi, site of the 2014 Winter Olympics, and discussing Mr Depardieu’s soon-to-be released film in which he plays Russian mystic Grigory Rasputin.
