HTC’s third-quarter profit fell nearly 80 per cent as the Taiwanese smartphone maker suffered one of its weakest quarters amid rising pressure from market leaders Samsungand Apple.
The company’s fortunes have been sliding for the past few quarters, as Samsung overtook its once-leading position in the market for phones powered by Google’s Android operating system, and Apple launched its popular iPhone 5.
HTC’s unaudited revenue for the quarter was T$70.2bn ($2.4bn). Its net income of T$3.9bn was down from T$18.68bn in the same quarter last year.
