Obama warns gulf residents not to ‘tempt fate’ as hurricane Isaac nears

Barack Obama, US president, urged gulf coast residents to heed evacuation orders yesterday and not “tempt fate” in the face of hurricane Isaac.

“We’re dealing with a big storm and there could be significant flooding and other damage across a wide area,” Mr Obama said after Isaac was upgraded from a tropical storm to a category one hurricane.

“Now is not the time to dismiss official warnings. You need to take this seriously.”
