Harry Potter is due to work his magic on digital publishing later this year when JK Rowling’s novels will be turned into e-books to be sold exclusively on an interactive website that will whisk readers away into a world of wizardry, the author announced yesterday.
The e-books will be compatible with a range of existing e-readers including Amazon’s Kindle, Apple’s iPad, and Sony’s reader but will side-step Amazon and Apple’s online stores by being sold only on the author’s dedicated website, Pottermore.
The seven Potter books have broken publishing records having sold about 450m copies, while the book adaptations have become the most bankable film franchise for Time Warner’s film studio. The boy wizard’s fans have been eagerly awaiting the latest online developments since the Pottermore website was tantalisingly trailed with the message “Coming soon . . . ”.
