Paradoxically, in such warm-blooded societies as Argentina’s, the culture of machismo that makes it difficult for women to shatter the “glass ceiling” can also liberate professional women from feeling pressurised to hide their sexuality. Perhaps this is what Fernández de Kirchner means when she says she is making a political plus out of being a woman.
