Airbus lost a large Chinese passenger jet order to US rival Boeing, prompting a senior official of the European aircraft maker to claim that Washington brought political influence to bear in the deal.
“We understand there was a lot of political pressure from Washington on that transaction,” said John Leahy, Airbus’s chief operating officer for customers.
“Even Obama and Hu Jintao were talking about it during the visit to the US,” he added, referring to the Chinese president’s state visit in January.
