Tesco is preparing to launch online shopping in China, the Czech Republic and Poland as part of an expansion plan under its incoming chief executive.
Philip Clarke, who will take over as chief executive of the world’s third-largest grocer next year when Sir Terry Leahy retires, told the Financial Times that he wants to expand Tesco’s online offer around the world.
Tesco will start trading online in Poland next year to be followed by Prague and Shanghai. A pioneer in the UK in online retailing, Tesco sells over the internet in Korea and Ireland, its first and third-biggest international markets respectively.
