Goldman issued subpoena after ‘abysmal' response to US probe

The US Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission has launched a sharp attack on Goldman Sachs for its “abysmal” response to requests for information and issued a subpoena to compel it to provide documents and executives for interviews.

The bipartisan commission, chaired by Phil Angelides, former California state treasurer, was set up by Congress to study the causes of the financial crisis and has been equipped with broad legal powers.

Mr Angelides said Goldman had been asked to provide similar information to other large banks on a variety of topics but was an “outlier” in its “abysmal” response.
