BMW said yesterday that soaring demand for premium cars in China could prompt it to lift production capacity in the country by more than sevenfold in the long term, Daniel Schäfer reports from Hamburg.
Norbert Reithofer, BMW's chief executive, said it would be “a realistic scenario” to increase capacity to 300,000 cars eventually if strong demand continued in the next few years.
BMW's current production capacity, in its joint venture with Chinese carmaker Brilliance, is 41,000 cars.
