A third version of the iPhone goes on sale today in the US.
The launch of the iPhone 3G S, shown to the public on Monday by Philip Schiller, Apple's senior vice-president of marketing, pictured above, is being accompanied by a third version of the iPhone operating system. Much of the success of the iPhone has been attributed to the 50,000 games and applications developed for it and the 3.0 software will make more complex and compelling “apps” possible. The 3G S has a faster processor, more memory and storage, as well as an improved camera and the ability to shoot video and send MMS multimedia messages. Critics argue that other smartphones have been MMS and video capable for years, but reviews of the new device have been positive. The new software enables stereo Bluetooth connectivity and push notifications, which allow applications to alert users to messages.
