Gordon Brown yesterday apologised on behalf of all Britain's politicians over the expenses scandal that has tarnished the reputation of the UK parliament and all mainstream political parties.
After several days of half-hearted excuses, senior politicians lined up to say sorry as they came to terms with the public anger over the exploitation of the parliamentary allowances system.
The prime minister led the way when he said: “I want to apologise on behalf of politicians of all parties for what has happened.” He added: “We must show that we have the highest standards for our profession.”
