Small US companies get help to go global

For most of its 90-year history, Baird has stayed close to its mid-western roots. But in recent decades this Wisconsin investment company, which today manages client assets worth $66bn (£45bn, €50bn), has expanded in geography and scope.

To round out its work in asset and wealth management, capital markets and investment banking, Baird entered private equity in 1989.

Baird Private Equity was established in Chicago to invest in small and medium-sized companies in the US. It broadened its reach to Europe when it acquired Granville, the London-based investment bank and private equity firm, in 1999.
