Israel attacked the World Health Organization’s premises in Gaza three times on Monday, the UN agency said, warning that Israel’s expanding war with Hamas was pushing the Palestinian enclave’s health system further towards collapse.
The warning came amid mounting international condemnation of Israel’s 21-month offensive in Gaza, with 28 western countries on Monday denouncing Israel’s restrictions on aid deliveries to the enclave, where the UN has warned that the entire 2.1mn population is at risk of famine.
The concerns have been heightened by Israel’s expansion of its offensive into Deir al-Balah, one of the few parts of Gaza where it had not previously deployed ground forces, and where several international aid organisations have been based since being forced out of other parts of the enclave.
