Israel is to allow limited humanitarian aid into Gaza, ending an almost three-month blockade of all food and medicine that has pushed hundreds of thousands of Palestinians in the enclave to the brink of starvation.
Benjamin Netanyahu said his cabinet approved “a basic quantity of food” being allowed into Gaza on the advice of Israel’s military, which on Sunday stepped up a ground offensive in the strip.
The prime minister’s office said the decision on Sunday evening was in order to avoid a “hunger crisis” that would endanger the continuation of the operation launched against Hamas.
