Argentina’s president Javier Milei left a political storm in his wake in Madrid, as Spain’s right-wing opposition sided with him in a row with the country’s prime minister.
Spain’s Socialist PM Pedro Sánchez on Monday demanded that Milei apologise for describing his wife as corrupt during a far-right conference at the weekend. The Argentine leader’s comments prompted Spain to recall its ambassador in Buenos Aires for consultations.
The Spanish opposition led by the conservative Popular party (PP) retorted that Sánchez was wrong to elevate this spat to a diplomatic dispute.
